Floyd Beard
Floyd began writing poetry while out working his cattle in the 1980’s. He would write down lines and verses about what he experienced while out in the saddle and dealing with his livestock and horses. He would then mold these thoughts into stories and songs when he got back to the house that evening. His poetry is about his own experiences and his observations of the western way of life. Floyd’s stories are inter-woven with his western code of high ethics and integrity and sprinkled richly with humor. Floyd also recites some cowboy poetry classics, from some of the best cowboy poets from the past, keeping the western spirit and history alive.

The Chipeta Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) was organized January 21, 1978, in Salida, Colorado. The name of the chapter honors Colorado’s famous Indian woman who was born an Apache but raised as a Ute. Chipeta, whose name means “white singing bird,” married Chief Ouray at age 16 and was the only Ute woman permitted to sit in council. There is a concrete tepee that was erected in 1924 over a cold natural spring on the site of Chief Ouray and Chipeta’s homestead in Montrose, Colorado. The focus of Chipeta Chapter, NSDAR, is the preservation of American history and patriotism in the schools and in our community.
The NSDAR is a non-political, non-profit, volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to preserving American history, promoting patriotism, and securing America’s future through better education for children. The DAR was founded in 1890, and its main headquarters are located in Washington, D.C. DAR members volunteer annually to support veterans; they also award scholarships and financial aid each year to students, and support schools for the underprivileged with annual donations.
